A Lovely Christmas With My Mum

Thank you Mummy :)

I've just come home after spending a lovely few days away visiting my Mum. This year the children spent Christmas day with their father, which I think is great because it gave me the opportunity to visit my own Mum and to spend some quality time with just her.

My brother and sisters were all visiting the USA and I had my own special time with my Mother. I was totally spoilt and she didn't let me do a single thing. She gave me a complete break away from everything which was very welcomed indeed and I'd like to thank her for her kindness and for giving me some special memories over the past few days. I've totally enjoyed myself and I think a girl has to spend some time with her best friend sometimes.....even when it's her own Mum.

I'm just disappointed now because I had to return as it is back to work for me soon. :(

Thanks for the memories Mum and thank you for completely spoiling me over the past few days. It's been fabulous and it just goes to show that you're never too old to be mummy's little angel. ;)

"Wherever You Are"

Wherever You Are"....this is such a beautiful song. Although I am not a military wife I was once a military daughter when my father was in the RAF.

This year I won't be spending Christmas with my either of my two daughters. When I first listened to this song I found it very emotional....It's beautiful! :)

Thinking about everyone who will be apart from their loved ones this Christmas. x

The song is beautiful. Here are some of my favourite lyrics from the song:

"Wherever you are my love will keep you safe,

My heart will build a bridge of light across both time and space.
Wherever you are, our hearts still beat as one
I hold you in my dreams each night "

and these:

"Wherever I am, I will love you day by day
I will keep you safe, cling on to faith, along the dark dark way
Wherever I am, I will hold on through the night
I will pray each day a safe return, will look now to the light
Light up the darkness, my wondrous star"

"Hugo"

Not a huge spoiler :)

I went to see the film 'Hugo' at the cinema recently and I thoroughly enjoyed it.  It is a Martin Scorsese film. The film was set in Paris during the 1930's and it told the story of a little orphan boy named Hugo who lived within the walls of a Paris train station. He developed a talent for anything mechanical from his father and uncle.

The film stars Ben Kingsley, Sacha Baron Cohen, Christopher Lee, Frances de la Tour, Jude Law and Helen
McCrory. I am not terribly certain but I think Johnny Depp had something to do with the directing of the film.

I watched the film in 3D and I would have to say it was wonderful. You'd have to watch the film to know exactly what I mean.

FINALS

I was so happy for the winners Harry and Aliona. ;)  I'm a Lion, a Leo the lion therefore I was rooting for both Harry and Alion-a-team. ;)

Commiserations to Jason and his partner and also Chelsee and her partner too. They too were fabulous dancers.

The show ended with the song 'Simply the Best'  by Tina Turner...and they were the best!

I've enjoyed watching the show over the past few weeks....it has been great!  I loved the finale this evening when all of the previous contestants from this years show, all danced together.

I have a love for the programme because my own parents were such fabulous ballroom dancers. In fact I remember folk leaving the dance floor to watch my parents dance...because they were so good.  I used to enjoy dancing and I was quite a good mover in my youth. ;) My eldest daughter did me proud not all that long ago when I went to see her in one of her ballroom dancing concerts. She is an excellent dancer too.  It seems it runs in the family. ;)

Thank you to Sir Bruce Forsyth for bringing us such a fabulous show. What are we going to do for the rest of the year now?:)

Proud of My Roots!

I think everyone should feel proud of their roots and where their families originate from....I know I'm very proud of mine. :)

Most of you know about my English/Scots roots/background...which I am indeed very proud off, however I am also very proud of my Indian roots too. I was born during the British raj in India in a British hospital. My parents both lived within an Anglo-Indian community at the time. Although I was brought up in England and I came to live in England when I was almost 6 months old (my Mum's family all lived here already)....I am still very proud of my roots in India too although I have never celebrated any of the Indian culture in my life before....nor have I ever visited India on a holiday before either. :)

I have never held a birth certificate before because I was born in India where they did not issue such things. Instead we were only issued with a baptism certificate because the custom in India was to christen babies within a month of them being born. We were issued with baptism certificates instead. It always caused a few problems when work places/other authorities asked me to produce a birth certificate....which I didn't have. :)

My Anglo-Indian culture...means that because I was brought up in England I was only brought up speaking the English language and my family only celebrated the British christian celebrations. I'm also very proud of the fact that I hold only a British passport...which shows my appreciation of being British and I wouldn't want to be anything else but! :)

My Dad was in the Royal Air Force which is also something else to feel very proud off. We were brought up with respect and the knowledge that my Father could be sent out to war at any time during his RAF career. I am so glad and thankful he always came home to us though. :)

I don't have a problem with anyone elses culture however I am mostly proud of my own culture as I think we should all be proud of this fact. I am proud to be British and I am also proud of my roots too. :)

Waving To Everyone :)

Hello :)

SmileyRose x

I Was On The Radio This Morning :)

It was a funny kind of a day today. :)

It began with me sitting down to breakfast this morning. I logged into my facebook account and I then made a search for Heart Radio, Cambridgeshire.  I looked for this specifically so that I could see the new Stripper comedy sketch on facebook.  DJ's  Kev and Ros from Heart Radio made this as a Christmas Special. I actually laughed out loud when I watched it this morning as the original sketch made by Morcambe and Wise some years ago still makes me a chuckle whenever I watch it.  It's just so funny. :)

Anyway, the next thing I know I get a telephone call from Kev and Ros because I happened to 'like' their sketch.  It was funny as I was on my way to work and I was sitting on the bus at the time of the call. I could feel my cheeks hotting up as I spoke to them live on air this morning... basically to tell them how much I enjoyed their funny sketch of the Stripper. LOL Ros's chopping of the grapefruits was so funny. I then wished them a Merry Christmas and that was my spotlight moment over and done with. :)  After I finished the call I remembered I was still on the bus and as I looked up at the others there were a few grumpy faces looking at me LOL.

It was fun and my thanks to Kev and Ros for making me feel so comfortable chatting to them this morning. ;)

Sad!

X-Factor USA

Ewww Rachel Crow was dumped from the XFactorUSA today....she wasn't going very quietly either. She sobbed and she sobbed and she sobbed some more. She blamed her Mum for going back on her promise...presumably because she did not win. She obviously quite wasn't mature enough to handle being dumped.

If the programme are going to have kids entertain us then they ought prepare the kids for not being winners all of the time. Either that or parents should not allow children to enter competitions they cannot handle because they are not mature enough to handle rejection.

I felt so sorry for this young girl because a caring parent would not have allowed their child to feel this hurt. (((((((((hugs))))))))))) to Rachel Crow. x

The School Nativity Play

You will always remember your childs first Nativity play....and all of the little children singing hymns to celebrate Christmas and the birth of Jesus. "Away In A Manger" is probably one of the more popular nativity hymns your child is likely to learn. It's a tearful event for most parents who attend their childs first nativity play. I remember the tears rolling down my cheeks as I saw both of my ...children take the stage for the very first time. The excitement on their little faces before hand was fabulous to watch. They didn't want to be late for school on this very important day. I arrive at the school and I take a seat. I feel my stomach churning because I so want everything to go smoothly for them. The play begins...hooray it's going smoothly and then suddenly you start to smile again when you hear one little child fluffing his/her lines....there are chuckles coming from the audience and there's lots of awwwing. Awww the little angels.....I have such happy memories. :)

Thinking Back To My Childhood

Thinking back to my childhood and how excited I would become when the Stirling Road van pulled up at the end of our street....how I'd rush over to the van to buy myelf a Lucky Bag. It was really disappointing if the prize inside the bag turned out to be naff though. ;)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nothing could beat the times when I stayed at my grandmother's home. How I'd love to run to the corner shop at the end of her street. I used to call the assistant 'Lady.' She had lots of sweetie jars behind her counter. I'd buy loads of sweeties with my pocket money and one or two of those little sugared mice she used to keep on the end of her counter. Awww those were the good old days. ;)

Scary Stuff!!!

I don't want to be a party pooper here nor do I want to alarm anyone but this is serious stuff!!! Thanks to Alan (my cousin) for sending this to me.

The article warns of Super Solar Storms in 2012. NASA have forecasted that it could wipe out the Earth! How scary is this? Apparently if proper precautions are not taken you're looking at nuclear meltdowns around the entire world. During superstorms all communication will be blasted out of existence. There will be power failure. Towns and Cities without light or water. Food will run out and we could have a mass starvation on our hands. One billion folk could die. You're looking at a decade or more for complete restoration. What a catastrophe this could lead to. :(

Is Age Just A Number?

I have just been reading a DM newspaper article re One Direction singer Harry Styles who has recently been reported as dating a woman who is 15yrs older than him. Many folk have called their relationship disgusting!

Surely If two people love each other and they are attracted to each other, then what is so wrong with them dating each other? Nobody calls it disgusting if a man has a relati...onship with a woman who is 15yrs his junior! In fact he's likely to get a pat on the back from his mates. So whilst younger woman are seeing older men it leaves younger guys free to see older women....so what? :)

Personally I prefer to date guys nearer my own age but I have absolutely nothing against those who choose to do differently to me. The world revolves around folk who are different to me. Good luck to them if they're happy together....who is anyone else to say differently. :)See more

The Leveson Inquiry and Celebs

http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2011/nov/21/leveson-inquiry-hugh-grant-testimony

Isn't it about time new privacy laws were set in action to prevent folk from being hounded by the paparazzi etc??????? Everyone should have the right to some privacy. I think the members of the public should refrain from buying mags/newspapers etc which are filled with trash. How would they like to be hounded and to have their own personal lives open to public opinion...particularly if it is all untrue?

Let's face it...anyone can make up stories....it's whether or not we choose to believe the story which makes the difference. Idle gossip about someone else can sometimes cause pain and grief for all of the parties involved.

It is up to the Members of the Public to try not to thrive too much on gossip. They should try and refrain from buying the newspapers that rely on their sales by gossiping only...particularly if the stories are untrue. Put it this way if I befriended a person who only liked to gossip maliciously about others then I'd be a bit weary of them. I'm likely to want to stay well clear of them.

I'm sure there are some celebs who get hacked off with stories of their personal lives being strewn all over the newspapers/magazines. I think stories which are just made up from third party sources should be banned. The only articles which should be allowed are those which are given the go ahead by the celebs themselves or if they are interviewed personally by the publisher of the article who has been given the go ahead to release the information. Photographs should be authorized if they are to be published so that bad photos which are likely to show the person in a different light are not plastered everywhere!!!

Perhaps if the celebs themselves all kept their lives sqeeky clean/out of trouble and they didn't do things which were extraordinary...then they wouldn't get their names in the papers in the first place. But maybe some of them are doing it just for attention just to get their names in press anyway which isn't how we want our children to see how folk portray themselves in this manner. :)

Colin Firth is a good example to celebs who are usually on their best behavior. Look at him! He recently won an oscar and he didn't need to be plastered in the newspapers for anything untoward in order to get himself noticed. His name was plastered all over the newspapers/magazins his own merits.

I prefer those folk who get themselves into the newspaper for their merit...rather than the other. I just don't like tacky! ;)

You'll Love This! - "Rocking Around The Christmas Tree"

You'll love this! The Prime Minister has concluded that most folk are generally happy after a £2 million enquiry between April and August was conducted. The investigation by David Cameron's office established that most of us place ourselves at 7/10 on a scale of wellbeing. One of the researchers thought the whole thing was pointless and all it was really going to do was tell the government about our temperament.

So folk it was quite a costly survey to find out that most folk are happy with their lot.com. :)

In Memory Of A Very Special Friend

A very special friend died a couple of years ago. She was special because I shared a number of good memories with her. She was a Mother and a Wife and she was taken away from them when she was still relatively young. I'd like to spend a moment, especially at this time of year to remember her and to think about her family.

My most special memory of this friend is the day she hugged me and we cried together. I was deeply sadened because she was leaving the area to go and live elsewhere. We kept in touch by writing to eachother regularly. She was always the first to send me a Christmas card.

This post is dedicated to her because she was a very special friend and she is sadly missed. x

This is also a good time to think about all of the family and friends who have passed away in recent years. They're all sadly missed by me. xx

Whilst Shopping At Harrods.....

A friend sent me this joke today. :)

A lady walks into Harrods. She looks around, spots a diamond bracelet and she walks over to inspect it.

As she bends over to look more closely, she f*rts.

Very embarrassed, she looks around nervously to see if anyone noticed her little woops, and prays that a sales person was not anywhere nearby.

As she turns around, her worst nightmare materialises in the form of a salesman standing right behind her. Good looking as well! ;)

As cool as a cucumber, he displays all of the qualities one would expect of a professional in a store like Harrods.

He politely greets the lady with "Good Day Madame. How may we help you?"

Blushing and uncomfortable, but still hoping that the salesman somehow missed her little 'incident' she asks, "Sir, what is the price of this lovely bracelet?"

He answers, "Madam - if you f*arted just looking at it you are going to poop yourself when I tell you the price.;)

Eww Sex Education At School

The topic today: Sex education within schools.

I really believe that there is a time and a place for everything. Children really do not need to be taught sex education before their time, mainly because they will learn soon enough once. Certainly not before they begin to have relationships....so why do they need to be taught sex education within the school? The only thing children really need to know is how 'not' to become pregnant before their time. All good things should come to those who wait until the time is right, therefore school children should not even be considering having sex whilst they are still at school. They are more likely to become curious the more it is talked about at school.

Throughout our lives we will always be learning about one thing or the other but one should not begin learning about a subject before they are good and ready to learn it. It's like trying to bake a cake before you've bought all of the ingredients.

Remember, learning is something many of us will do right throughout our lifetime...and the more we learn the better we become. The better we become the more experienced we are...but there are some things which we should not be learning about, not until we are mature enough to understand just what it is we are learning about ie., you can't teach a baby to read and write until they are old enough, certainly not until they have learnt the alphabet first. ;)

SmileyRose x

Can you remember what your first ever teacher was called? Can you remember the names of all of your schools etc?

This is easy. :)

My first ever teacher was named Mrs Cuthbertson. She was a lovely teacher. She chose me to play the Angel Gabriel when I was barely 5yrs old for the school nativity play. I even had a speaking part in the play. :)

All of my schools are as follows:

Minden Barracks Primary School, Malaya
Fisherton Anger Primary School, Salisbury Wiltshire
Cambell Primary School, Cyprus
St John's Secondary School, RAF Episkopi, Cyprus
Uppingham Community College, Uppingham, Rutland
Bedale High, Bedale, North Yorkshire
Exeter C of E School, Stamford, Lincs
New College Stamford, Stamford, Lincs

British Woman!

Heck! I've never been obese but I enjoy my food. I'd class myself as curvy but that's far from being obese. I'm British too....so how dare they report such trash. :)

Anyway...doesn't it just go to show that British folk know how to enjoy themselves and they don't let their weight or the way they look if they are overweight worry them too much. It's good to eat healthy but hey ho....so what if you're a little overweight...is it the end of the world? :)

The Generation Game ;)

A very self-important college freshman attending a recent football game, took it upon himself to explain to a senior citizen sitting next to him why it was impossible for the older generation to understand his generation.

"You grew up in a different world, actually an almost primitive one!", the student said, loud enough for many of those nearby to hear.

"The young people of today grew up with television, jet planes, space travel, man walking on the moon, our spaceships have visited Mars. We have nuclear energy, electric and hydrogen cars, computers with DSL, BPS, light-speed processing .... and pausing to take another drink of beer.... The Senior took advantage of the break in the student's litany and said, "You're right, son. We didn't have those things when we were young, so we invented them. Now, you - arrogant little - what are you doing for the next generation?"
