How Would You Feel...

SmileyRoseFrances x

Please Stop! I Am Fed Up!

Tuts* I do wish folk would stop calling me Spanish, Italian or Portuguese!!!! If I was any other nationality, I would be able to speak the language of that country fluently, surely!

In order to be known as a particular nationality, I think you should at least be able to speak the language of that country.

I can only speak English! ☺

Ps  It's like me going to live in Cyprus, changing my nationality to Greek Cypriot, but not knowing the language!!!! You can be born/live anywhere in the world, but the language/accent which we speak as our main language can help to establish a lot.

"Hacksaw Ridge" and "Lion" :)

There have been two excellent films I have been to watch at the cinema recently.  One starred Nicole Kidman and the other was directed by Mel Gibson, two of my favourite Australian actors. ☺

"Hacksaw Ridge" - An amazing film! I went to watch Hacksaw Ridge this evening, I was simply glued to my seat from start to finish.  The film was a true life story about Desmond Doss, the World War II medic and how he single handedly saved the lives of soldiers who were doomed to die at Hacksaw Ridge.  The film was directed by Mel Gibson.

Mel Gibson ceases to amaze me. I simply loved this film. Desmond Goss was truly an American hero who deserves to be recognised for his bravery. Andew Garford,  such a brilliant actor.

When you watch films like this, it makes you realize that there are some truly brave people who all deserve the recognition for their courage.

I attended a British Red Cross First Aid Course some years ago, before I was married. I passed the course due to someone who encouraged me to pass. I was extremely nervous on the day and he helped me with my revision, due to his very caring nature. I thank him from the bottom of my heart. It was during the days I lacked confidence due to my shyness. Thankfully I passed and although I did not renew my certificate after 3 years, it all helped when I later became a full time Mother to my children. Learning First Aid is always useful when you become a Mum. :)

Ps My Mum is named Dorothy. I loved the Wizard of Oz too. :)

-------------------------------------------

"Lion" - What a beautiful film. A very uplifting and heart-warming film which starred the beautiful actress Nicole Kidman, the brilliant actor Dev Patel and the lovely actress Rooney Mara.

I am still very tearful after watching this true life story.  It was very emotional. So lovely to see the real family at the end of the film.

Parts of the film were filmed in poverty stricken India and the beautiful beaches of Australia. I have high regards for both countries, but a very special place in my heart for India.  ☺ i have a passion to visit both places one day. 😊

I'm a Leo the Lion. The film made me roar.

Skin Colour!

A person can still be brought up as white British no matter what  his/her skin colour is!  It is all a matter genetics. :)

Two white parents can give birth to a black child if there are black genes in either parents ancestry. The same baby could grow up with siblings who are white! It would not make the baby mixed race! The baby would still be brought up speaking the same language as his/her parents. The child would still grow up as being white British because he/she may/may not be aware of his/her ancestral history.

You could say the same about a child who was adopted. If a child from a different cultural background was adopted from an Asian country, by a white British family, he/she is not going to know his/her birth mother, unless he/she wished to trace his/her birth parents. Even then, he/she may not speak the same language as his/her birth parents if he/she was brought up by adopted parents, who happen to be white! That child would indeed still grow up to be white British, because they would not know any difference!

Also, parents who both have an Anglo (English) and a mixed background, are likely to bring their children up with a white upbringing if they are brough up in the UK, even if their skin colour is not white.

The colour of your skin does not determine your cultural background!  :)

I Am Not Pompous!

I am not pompous!!!! I am down to earth, but I speak a little posh! ☺

No i am not above myself just because I sound posh!  I am not too posh too push! I am not wealthy! I was fortunate enough to have moved around the UK as a child because my Father was in the Royal Air Force, therefore I did not pick up a strong accent.

I was not public school educated!!!!

SmileyRoseFrances x

Highfalutin Words 😁

Thinks when someone uses highfalutin words, the ordinary, averagely educated person cannot always understand what you are talking about. I think my down to earth style of writing, is a good happy medium. Most people can understand me. 😁😁😁

I would make a good interpreter for some of the English!

SmileyRoseFrances x

NO INTERPRETERS!!!!!!

*****Tuts***Someone enquired if any member of my family have ever required an interpreter for anything. The answer is No! ALL members of my family ALL speak English as our first/only language, including my Parents and my Grandparents. My sister learnt French at University. My daughter has a first class degree in English, with Honours. I was her first teacher. 😁

English is out First language.

I was born in 1961.:)

No Love Songs, Yet!!!!

I cannot possibly like the new Ed Sheeran song just yet, however I will let you know when I meet the man of my dreams one day, who is not gay!  It's a lovers song. :)

I like love songs which I can associate with my children though. I love them! 😀

Of course I would really like to meet and fall in love with a nice man one day, with someone who isn't gay/bisexual though.😀

Hello, My Name Is FRANCES :)

The name Frances, my name, is indeed an English name which was made popular here in the UK in the 1920's. The name originated from the French name Francoise.

The male version of the female name Frances, is Francis. My Father's first name is Francis (Frank).

There are other similar forms of my name, used abroad, however I was christened with the English version of the name.

Of course I love my name. It's a nice first name. It is also a Saints name. ☺

I Am Not Attention Seeking :)

Lol someone recently told me that I was a pretty woman, but why don't I show more cleavage in my photographs! Well I was a little surprised at the person for saying this, however I told him that I am not an attention seeking person. I am happy with the way I look, without needing to show lots of cleavage off, even though I have ample. I think showing off too much, is often because you are trying to draw your attention away from your face!

I'm happy with the way I look. I don't need to divert anyone's attention away from my face.😀

Each to their own though. 😂😂😂😂😂

Ps It is true, none of my photos show lots of cleavage..and I have tons of pictures of myself on Facebook (in public too). 😂

First Language :)

Someone recently asked me what I considered as a "first language." A first language is the language you speak mainly in the home. Your Mother tongue is your first language, anything else is classed as a second, or more, depending on many other languages you can speak

For instance English is my first language. It is my Mother tongue. I dream in English. I do know a little school girl French however, my French is very limited/basic therefore I cannot really class it as my second language.

If you cannot speak another language very well, you cannot possibly class it as speaking a second language, unless you can speak it fluently.

I can only speak one language fluently.

La La Land. :)

I simply love musicals and this film really surprised me when I went to see it recently. The film stars Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, and it tells the story of an aspiring actress named Mia and a Jazz musician named Sebastian. The two meet in Los Angeles and they fall in love. They are both trying desperately hard to become stars, however the two are torn between love and success.

This is an excellent film to go and see. I loved it. I can't stop humming the song "City of Stars" my favourite tune in the film. :)

The film is directed and written by Damien Chazelle. Music by Justin Hurwitz.

I have no plans to celebrate Valentine's Day. I may get a takeaway later though. 😂

SmileyRoseFrances x

I Do Not Look White Skinned and Lilly Pink!

Depending on what family line you take after, you may not always look white skinned and lilly pink, .......even though you may have English blood running through your veins. Your mannerisms and your first and only spoken/written language can still be the English language.

So the next time anyone ever tells me to go back to my own country, I'm already in it you daft ninkompoop! You try living in a country where they do not speak the same language as you, where their culture and their religion is different to yours and see how you like it!!!!

English Rose :)

Someone asked me to define an English Rose. An English Rose is anyone who speaks English as their first language and who has English blood running through their veins. 😂

I'm an English Rose 😁 My Grandmother was named Dorothy Shreeves and she originated from Southampton, England. It's in my blood. ;)

SolvingTraffic Problems ?

What would I do to keep traffic down....hmm our roads are heaving! ☺

I would probably tax someone who has a second car, much higher than the families who have just one family vehicle between them. Basically, the more cars you own, the more car tax you should pay, per car. If you can afford more than two cars, then you're probably considered richer than the average family...so you can afford it. 😀

If every family had just one car per home, think of how much better it would be. 😂 Traffic is just becoming a huge problem on our roads. They should consider drastic measures in order to keep the traffic down. 😊

SmileyRoseFrances x

No! I Am Not Portuguese! Tuts!

Someone recently asked if I have ever been to Portugal before. I have, but only the once, when I went on a holiday (in more recent years). I went to the Algarve. It's not like I have any relative a living there, whereby I can have any cheap holidays. I wish!!! I had to pay for my holiday. 😊

None of my family speak the Portuguese language either. 😁 None of my family are Portuguese nationals, only British! 😀

No I am not Indian. I cannot speak any of the Indian languages. I was brought up as Christian because both of my parents are Christians.

We all speak the English Language only. 😊

Can You Speak Martian?

Most people know the language of the Country they were born in, however, I do not! Therefore stop confusing me for being something that I am not! As much as I like some of the people of the country I was born in, I cannot be something that I'm not. For one, my religion and culture are so very different and the language which I speak is very different to the country I was born in. Even my parents do not speak the language of the country I was born in. Some people are such hard work. Trying to get through to them sometimes, is like trying to get them to speak to someone on a different planet!

I Can Speak English, With An English Accent!

For those of you who do not know me very well, My name is Frances, I was born abroad in 1961, however I do have an English accent. :)

Although I look like I am from another country, I am a Christian. I don't just speak the English language, I can speak English, with an English accent. :)

English is my first language. Indeed it is the only language I can speak fluently.

Why does that surprise some people? It's the only language my Mother and Father ever taught me. :)
